Point Loma Nazarene University men's golf coach Ben Foster has been selected to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Hall of Fame.

Foster is in his 39th year of coaching NAIA teams. He was the PLNU men's basketball coach for 17 years and took over the golf program in 1974. Under his guidance, the Sea Lions have made 18 appearances in the NAIA National Championship and have posted 10 top-10 finishes. Foster has coached 17 All-Americans and three national champions.

“It's an unbelievable honor,” Foster said of being selected. “It's not something that I set out to do. My entire career I just wanted to teach and coach.”

Foster is a PLNU alum, having attended the school and played basketball in the '60s when it was Pasadena College. He was named the team's MVP three times and led Pasadena to an NAIA National Tournament appearance in 1967.

Foster becomes the seventh Pasadena/Point Loma Nazarene representative in the NAIA Hall. He will be inducted at the 2009 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship in Davenport, Iowa, on May 18.
