Frasier helps U.S. grab Jr. Ryder Cup lead

UNION-TRIBUNE

September 16, 2008
Danielle Frasier of Encinitas combined with partners to win both of her matches yesterday, and the U.S. squad took a commanding 10½-1½ lead over Europe after the first day of the Junior Ryder Cup in Bowling Green, Ky.

At The Club at Olde Stone, Frasier (La Costa Canyon High) teamed with Jennifer Johnson to win at the morning foursomes (alternate shot) 3 and 2.

In the afternoon, Frasier, the reigning Girls Junior PGA champ, combined with Boys Junior PGA titlist Anthony Paolucci in foursomes (best ball) for a 5-and-3 victory.

“No one could have expected what happened today to happen. I am blown away by how well my team played,” said U.S. Junior Ryder Cup captain Ken Lindsay.

The competition ends today with 12 singles matches. The participants will play a nine-hole “friendship” match tomorrow at Valhalla Golf Club, site of the 37th Ryder Cup Matches, which begin Friday.
