FIRST QUARTER: TITANS 3, CHARGERS 0

Key plays: Tennessee dominated, but an interception by Antonio Cromartie at the 6-yard line saved the Chargers from being buried. Philip Rivers was intercepted three plays after Cromartie's theft; the Chargers quarterback was hit as he threw and the ball was caught by Michael Griffin at the San Diego 29. The defense held, with Shawne Merriman making a third-down sack to force a Titans field goal.

Key stats: The Chargers' lone first down came on the final play of the quarter, a 17-yard pass from Rivers to Chris Chambers that produced one more yard than their first 11 plays. San Diego was outgained 69-33.

Not in the box score: The interception by Cromartie was his ninth of the season, equaling Charlie McNeil's team record set in 1961. McNeil played a 14-game schedule; Cromartie tied him in 12 games plus six minutes . . . and with just five starts.

SECOND QUARTER: CHARGERS 3, TITANS 3

Key plays: Three of the Chargers' best players were injureds&8211; Antonio Gates (back), when he landed hard after dropping a pass; Rivers (knee), when he was clipped by Antwan Odom after a toss play; and Merriman (knee), who was cut from behind by a Titans player. Gates missed just three plays, but Rivers missed the rest of the quarter and Merriman never returned. Titans quarterback Vince Young also missed part of the quarter with sore ribs. Tennessee had a chance to score after Billy Volek's second pass was intercepted, but Rob Bironas missed a 29-yard field goal.

Key stats: Tennessee had a 125-64 advantage in total yards at halftime, but at least the Chargers were balanced – a paltry 32 yards rushing and passing.

Not in the box score: Volek, who played six-plus seasons for Tennessee before being traded to San Diego, was booed when he entered the game.

THIRD QUARTER: TITANS 10, CHARGERS 3

Key plays: Rivers returned, but about all he did was throw a horrible pass that Nick Harper intercepted and returned 32 yards to the Chargers 19. It took just four runs for the Titans to score the first TD of the day, with Chris Brown going in from the 7. Earlier, Matt Wilhelm made an interception and LaDainian Tomlinson ran 32 yards on the next play to give the Chargers a first-and-goal at the 9, but they had to settle for a field goal when Rivers' pass into the end zone on third down was incomplete.

Key stats: The Chargers had their most productive quarter of the game with 46 yards. Tomlinson rushed for 55, but Rivers' only completion was for minus-3 yards and he also was sacked once for minus-8 yards.

Not in the box score: The Chargers had LenDale White stuffed on third-and-1 at the 10, but he came around the line and made the first down. Also, Marlon McCree was 1-on-1 with Brown on the latter's TD run, but whiffed on the tackle at about the 8.

FOURTH QUARTER/OT: CHARGERS 23, TITANS 17

Key plays: The Titans took a 14-point lead two plays into the fourth quarter on White's 7-yard TD run, and when the Chargers failed to score after driving to the Titans 21, they appeared done. But a Mike Scifres punt that Kassim Osgood downed at the 1 set up a 48-yard Chargers TD drive, and the Bolts went 80 yards in the final 2½ minutes to tie the game on a 2-yard TD pass from Rivers to Gates. The key play was a 19-yard pass to Chris Chambers on fourth down that was upheld upon review. In overtime, another Scifres punt downed by Osgood and Cromartie set up another 48-yard TD drive, with Tomlinson scoring on a 16-yard run.

Key stats: After gaining 110 yards in the first three quarters, the Chargers had 231 in the fourth quarter and OT. Tomlinson rushed for 146 yards and his two TDs gave him 125 for his career, tying him with Walter Payton for eighth place on the all-time list.

Not in the box score: Not only did Osgood make two great plays on punts, he also correctly called heads on the coin flip to start OT.
