TORRANCE – A Lawndale man who stabbed a police dog has been sentenced to more than five years in prison.
Forty-year-old Jimmie Divo Lunceford stabbed a Redondo Beach police dog named Valor with a knife after threatening his stepdaughters and trying to break into his estranged wife's home in June 2007.
Torrance Superior Court Judge Sandra Thompson says she gave Lunceford the maximum sentence on Friday because he had many opportunities to end the “weekend from hell,” but didn't.
Lunceford was also ordered to pay $1,175 to cover Valor's medical expenses for two wounds. The dog has returned to duty.
