SAN FRANCISCO – A San Francisco jury is deliberating the case against a 24-year-old man charged with accosting Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel in a hotel elevator.

Jurors started their deliberations Friday morning after hearing closing arguments Thursday in the nine-day trial of Eric Hunt, who has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges of attempted kidnapping, elder abuse, false imprisonment, battery, stalking and hate crimes.

Wiesel, a Nobel laureate, testified last week that he thought the New Jersey man was trying to kidnap him when he yanked him off the elevator on Feb. 1, 2007. Before the incident, Hunt posted comments to a Web site questioning historical accounts of the Holocaust.

If convicted of all the charges, Hunt could face seven years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
