Suspect in quadruple Calif. murders skipped parole

ASSOCIATED PRESS

10:28 a.m. July 18, 2008

OROVILLE – Butte County's district attorney says a 28-year-old man suspected of killing his girlfriend and her two toddlers was wanted by police for skipping parole.

Butte County sheriff's deputies say Samuel Gonzalez killed himself with a shotgun after the slayings Wednesday.

Gonzalez had twice spent time in prison, once for burglary and once for having a knife and drug paraphernalia.

District Attorney Mike Ramsey says Gonzalez was released from prison in March. He was being sought on a warrant for being a parolee at large.

Oroville police aren't releasing the names of the 30-year-old woman and her children, ages 3 and 2. They are awaiting an autopsy to show how the three died.
