GILROY – A two-year-old boy is hospitalized and a parolee in custody after the toddler was dropped off at a Gilroy hospital with a gunshot wound.
Gilroy police say Michael Guajardo is being held on suspicion of felony child endangerment and violating parole after they say the 28-year-old Guajardo brought the wounded boy to Saint Louise Hospital Thursday afternoon and then drove off.
Officers stopped Guajardo in his car as he was later returning to the hospital with the child's mother.
Investigators say Guajardo – described by police as a known gang member – told them that the child was shot when a rival gang member pulled out a gun and the two men scuffled.
Gilroy police say the toddler was in critical but stable condition.
