Vista youth baseball sign-ups begin today

Sign-ups for Vista Pony and Colt baseball teams (ages 13 to 19) will be from noon to 3 p.m. today at Lincoln Middle School in Vista.

Registration costs are $135 for Pony (ages 13 to 14) plus snack bar fee and $135 for Colt/Palomino (ages 15 to 19) plus snack bar fee.

The 2008 Pony spring season begins in February and ends in June. The Colt season begins in March and ends in June.

SD Volleyball Club tryouts begin today

The San Diego Volleyball Club is holding travel team tryouts for players in grades seven through 12.

Travel teams compete in the Southern California Volleyball Association's season league, which runs from January through June.

Tryout fee is $50. The tryout schedule is as follows:

Ninth grade: Today, 1 to 2:30 p.m.; tomorrow, 5 to 7 p.m.; Nov. 25, 9 to 11 a.m.; Nov. 29, 5 to 7 p.m.

10th grade: Today, 3:30 to 5 p.m.; Nov. 26, 5 to 7 p.m.; Dec. 1, 9 to 11 a.m.; Dec. 3, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

11th grade: Today, 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Nov. 28, 5 to 7 p.m.; Dec. 1, 2 to 4 p.m.; Dec. 4, 5 to 7 p.m.

12th grade: Today, 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Nov. 28, 5 to 7 p.m., Dec. 2, 4 to 6 p.m.; Dec. 4, 5 to 7 p.m.

Carlsbad plans basketball day camp

The Carlsbad Recreation Department is offering a Basketball 101 youth day camp during the fall school recess, tomorrow through Wednesday. This three-day camp is for children ages 7 to 14.

Players will be exposed to various drills and games that are skill-specific, as well as game situations where they get to design the play.

Space is limited. Cost is $75 for Carlsbad residents and $85 for nonresidents.(760) 434-2971.

Vista softball registration under way

Girls age 4 to 14 (as of Dec. 31, 2007) can register online to play ASA softball by going to vistags.org. Online registration is being accepted now through Jan. 12.

Walk-in registration begins in December at Rancho Buena Vista Park, corner of South Melrose Drive and Shadowridge Drive. Registration times are: 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 8; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 5; and 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 9.

Fees are $120 for softball, (Divisions 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U) and 75 for T-ball (ages 4 to 6). There is a $10 discount for siblings at all walk-in registrations. Bring a copy of player's birth certificate for age verification.
