Youth basketball league offered by Vista

The Vista Parks and Community Services Department is accepting Youth Basketball program registrations for boys and girls born 1990-2001. Registrations will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Wildwood Recreation Center, 651 E. Vista Way.

The cost of the program ranges between $65 and $94, depending on the division and whether the participant is a Vista resident. NCJGA taking sign-ups for holiday Shoot Out

The North County Junior Golf Association's seventh annual Thanksgiving Shoot Out will be Nov. 19 and 20 at the Oceanside Golf Course (field limited to 42). All boys and girls ages 10 to 17 with golf course experience are eligible to participate.

The cost of $80 for members and $95 for guest includes range balls, green fees, hot dog and soda, awards and prizes.

Vista youth baseball sign-ups today

Sign-ups for Vista Pony and Colt baseball teams (ages 13-19) will be from noon to 3 p.m. today and Nov. 18 at Lincoln Middle School in Vista. Registration costs are $135 for Pony (ages 13 to 14) plus snack bar fee and $135 for Colt/Palomino (ages 15 to 19) plus snack bar fee.

The 2008 Pony spring season begins in February and ends in June. The 2008 Colt Spring season begins in March and ends in June.

North County youth rugby sign-ups begin

The North County Rugby Club invites youngsters 8 to 18 to attend demonstrations and club sign-ups from 9 a.m. to noon on the following days: Nov. 17 in Escondido at Kit Carson Park; and Nov. 24 in San Marcos at Las Posas Park.

NCRC offers organized coed, noncontact (touch) rugby for boys and girls 9 and younger, and full-contact (tackle) rugby for boys 10 to 18 in four age divisions and girls 12 to 13.

Vista Little League taking registrations

Vista National Little League is beginning to take registrations for the 2008 season. All boys and girls ages 5 to 12 before May 1, 2008, are eligible.

Sign-up days are from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 17 at the VNLL fields, 143 Hannalei Drive in Vista.

Cost is: $80 for T-ball, $90 for Rookies and $105 for Minors and Majors. A $75 snack bar deposit and $50 fundraiser deposit are required.

Bring a copy of the child's birth certificate and three proofs of residency. Sponsors, managers, coaches and umpires are also needed.

Registration is now open for the La Costa Youth Organization's baseball and softball programs that start in January and February. Baseball and softball teams are being formed for boys and girls ages 5 to 14.

LCYO provides baseball and softball to boys and girls living in north Encinitas, La Costa, south Carlsbad up to Palomar Airport Road and the San Elijo section of San Marcos. Teams will be formed according to age.

Fees are $170 for baseball/softball and $140 for T-ball and Pee Wee. The fees include uniforms and field costs. Players provide their own gloves and cleats.

Carlsbad offering basketball day camp

The Carlsbad Recreation Department is offering a Basketball 101 youth day camp during the fall school recess, Nov. 19-21. This three-day camp is for children ages 7 to 14 and is designed to introduce the fundamentals of the sport to beginners and refine the skills of advanced players.

Players will be exposed to various drills and games that are skill-specific, as well as game situations where they get to design the play. Children, grouped by age and ability, are coached by youth sports staff. All participants will receive a jersey.

Space is limited. Cost is $75 for Carlsbad residents and $85 for nonresidents. Call (760) 434-2971.

VC Tennis Club to host fall social

The Valley Center Tennis Club is holding its fall social and tennis round-robin at 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at Adams Park, 28751 Cole Grade Road. The public is invited to participate.

Soft drinks and water will be provided, and members will bring food to share. Everyone will be paired for doubles play. Prizes will be awarded for the highest scores in a series of matches.

Valley Center Tennis Club has regular tournament play for various levels and weekly play for drop-in tennis. Open play for adults is at 9 a.m. every Saturday. Adult women open play is at 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays, while seniors have open play at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays.
