OCEANSIDE: A short ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday for a new segment of the San Luis Rey River Bike Path.
The path runs seven miles along the river from College Boulevard almost to the beach. The $299,000 extension takes it about seven-tenths of a mile east to Andrew Jackson Street.
A second phase will extend the bicycle path to North Santa Fe Avenue.
Because the riverbank is too narrow in some places, the path veers onto Jackson and Tyler streets before returning to the river.
Costing a total of $1.1 million, the extensions are being built in conjunction with the Mission Resource Conservation District, a public agency with responsibilities in the river watershed.
City officials advise people wishing to attend the ceremonies to leave their cars in the parking lot at the new Mance Buchanon Park, 425 College Blvd., and walk east on the bike path to the ribbon-cutting. –L.S.
