OCEANSIDE – A 15-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of vandalism and possession of vandalism tools caused about $400 in damage to an Oceanside trash can, police said Tuesday.

An officer saw the boy tagging a a city-owned trash can near North Cleveland and Mission avenue about 6:15 p.m. Monday, according to Oceanside police Officer Kim Rainwater.

The officer arrested the boy, who had an etching tool with him, and later turned him over to his mother, Rainwater said. Because of his age, his name was withheld to protect his reputation.
